A cookie is a small text file placed on your device when you visit a website. We also treat similar technologies, such as browser local storage, in the same way. This notice should be read together with our Privacy Policy.
What we use today
This site sets no advertising cookies. What it does store on your device is listed below, with how long each item lasts.
- ci_lang (cookie): records whether you chose English or Dutch with the language switcher, so the site does not send you to the Dutch home page again. It lasts one year from the point you set it.
- ci_lang (local storage): the same language choice, kept as a fallback. It has no expiry and stays until you clear your browser storage.
- ci-announce-iso-subscriber-2026-dismissed-v1 (local storage): records that you closed the announcement bar at the top of the page, so it stays closed. It has no expiry and stays until you clear your browser storage.
- Sign-in session (local storage): set only if you create an account and sign in. It holds the tokens that keep you signed in, and is cleared when you sign out.
- Google Analytics (the _ga cookie family): distinguishes visits for site analytics. Google documents a typical lifetime of two years.
We do not show a cookie banner. The language and announcement entries are preferences rather than session cookies: they survive closing the browser, and you can remove them at any time in your browser settings.
What we do not use
- We do not run advertising or retargeting cookies.
- We do not sell or share data with ad networks.
- We run one third-party analytics script, Ahrefs Analytics, which is cookieless and records page views without identifying you. If this changes, we will update this notice and request your consent before any non-essential cookies are set.
Controlling cookies
You can clear or block cookies and local storage at any time using your browser settings. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may cause parts of the site to stop working as expected.
Changes
If we add analytics or any other non-essential cookies in the future, we will publish an updated notice and ask for your consent through an in-page banner before activating them.
