Circular Intelligence

WHO PICKS UP THE PHONE

Circularity fails when it's nobody's job. On every engagement, it's named — and it's theirs.

Two cities, one operating model.

We guide ourselves on three principles: logic, integrity, and excellence.

The team

Founded by Alexander Forrest and built with co-founder Mary Teehan.

Alexander Forrest

Global Lead & CEO

Location: Rotterdam, Netherlands

Linear business models no longer make commercial sense. Better systems can and must be built.

Alex has lived and worked across the Netherlands, the UK, Canada, Spain, and the US. His background spans sales, data, business development, and circular economy operations — most recently at Rotterdam start-up hub BlueCity, where he worked closely with more than 50 circularity initiatives.

The pattern he saw repeated: organisations start with strong intentions, then stall because they lack a practical roadmap for making circularity work commercially. That pattern — and the untapped market potential behind it — led to the creation of Circular Intelligence.

Alex brings systems thinking, sharp problem identification, and a strong commercial instinct. He turns complex circular metrics into a business case that leadership teams can act on.

Mary Teehan

Country Lead IE & Chief Partnerships & Policies Officer

Location: Dublin, Ireland

For most of human history, societies were naturally circular. Raw materials were scarce, and complex systems evolved to repair, reuse, repurpose, and extract maximum value from available resources.

Originally trained as an archaeologist, Mary studied how every era operated within constraints that shaped the way we designed products, built environments, and did business. In recent decades, those constraints fell away — replaced by a take-make-dump mentality.

Through her work across circularity — including with the European Financial Reporting Advisory Group on European sustainability reporting standards — Mary has seen first-hand that most organisations recognise the need for change but struggle to translate ambition into practical action.

At CI, she brings deep expertise in circular economy policy, research, and reporting frameworks, and builds the partnerships that turn ambition into practice.

Luke Ratterman

Director of Commercial Strategy and Investor Partnerships

Location: Dublin, Ireland

Track record advising plant-based advanced materials platforms on commercial and capital strategy.

Luke owns the commercial and investor side of CI's work. Circular ambition has to survive contact with a balance sheet and an investment committee, and that is where he operates: investor outreach and raise execution, turning a readiness position into a business case and an investment story that capital can back. He leads commercial strategy on client engagements and the investor partnerships behind them.

Alexander de Bruin

Director of Leadership and Organisational Transformation

Location: Netherlands

Alexander passionately focuses on stimulating sustainable transformation of people, organizations and ecosystems.

Alexander functions on a regular base as guide, coach and trainer on the sustainability journey of organizations and managementteams. With his background in finance he focuses both on intrinsic motivations as well as on the business case for sustainable transformation on the short and long term.

For him, sustainability is about future proofing organizations, markets and society. As Director of Leadership and Organisational Transformation he is committed to support the inevitable transition towards (more) circular companies and ecosystems.

How we work

We guide ourselves on three principles: logic, integrity, and excellence.

Logic in how we diagnose. Integrity in what we claim. Excellence in what we deliver. The people we bring in are chosen against the same bar.
